I have noticed a few people, do a summary post reflecting on what they have read in the previous month. What a good idea, especially when I seem to be lacking in reviews.
In September I read a rather eclectic mix of books:
1. Elizabeth Garner – The Ingenious Edgar Jones
2. Karen Wheeler – Tout Sweet
3. Rhys Bowen – Her Royal Spyness
4. Elizabeth Gilbert – Eat Pray Love
5. Veronica Henry – The Beach Hut (Review coming soon)
6. Lloyd Jones – Hand Me Down World (Still reading)
I do not have a favourite out of these that I have read. Although I would compare Gilbert’s and Wheeler’s novels, in some ways they are both novels about women trying to find themselves in very different ways. I preferred Wheeler’s and was a bit disappointed by Gilbert’s, in some ways Wheeler’s story of finding and creating her new life in France, was more personal and a struggle because she really did lack money at times. Whereas Gilbert seem to have the money just to take this year out, and find herself and obviously write the book.
My find though for this month was Rhys Bowen and I really enjoyed the first book, and hope to seek out more in of these books.
I am still reading Hand Me Down World as I am finding it quite challenging but also strangely addictive. I do hope to finish it soon, as it was an Amazon Vine book as well.
I do not have any plans for October because I enjoy my reading and I do not want to put myself under pressure so it will be whatever takes my fancy when I have to decide what to read next!
