Mindfulness for Dummies

Through the Amazon Vine programme I am lucky enough to get books to review, sometimes before they are published sometimes not. Whichever case it is a bonus! Now I normally pick fiction books, but in the past I have had the odd non fiction. Last month I opted for this book Why? Well without wanting to go into too much detail, I was introduced to Mindfulness a few months back as a different concept for managing an illness. I had yet to buy the book that was recommended to me, and my research on the subject had got no further than the internet and Google. However, when I saw this I knew it was meant to be and I had to get it – and I am so please I did. My review can be found below

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness means paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, with qualities like compassion, curiosity and acceptance.

What is Mindfulness for Dummies?  It is a book which introduces you to Mindfulness in the inimitable way that “Dummies” books do. It is broken down into sections, to make the journey and the book easy to understand if you want to read from beginning to end. It also works if you want to dip in and out of the book, picking up at the relevant key sections, you find from the well document Table of Contents. For example, using mindfulness at work or dealing mindfully with depression.

If you have never had any experience of mindfulness then this is the book for you, it will give you that start. If you know something about mindfulness but have yet to pick up a book for it (which is my case) then this book is also for you. If you are well practiced then perhaps this book will be good to take you back to basics and refocus on some simple tips. In short this book covers it all, and the free Audio CD is also a bonus, giving you a good guide into meditation and backs up plenty of theory in the book.

I have always been rather impressed with the Dummies books, and have had one in the past on Hypnotherapy which I let someone borrow and they never gave back. Which went against my own standard of not letting people borrow my books. I digress, but if you have never visited the Dummies website or never picked up the book, because the yellow and black covers put you off (!) then spend sometime over there. They are a great place to start and the website also have some very good articles as well. You will be amazed at what there is info about, from Accounting to Zune via Medical Ethics.

I love hearing from you so please leave a reply.
