Even though it’s usually a mistake (grin) … do movies made out of books make you want to read the original?
I am really struggling to think of a case where I have watched a film and gone and read the book. The only one that pops up into my head is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier. I think though this was because my mum (who obviously I listen to) said the book as far better than the film – yes she was right!
I have tried plenty of the ‘Classics’ like Jane Eyre, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights because I have seen them in film or as a TV programme and never got on with them. However, perhaps as I have got older I might go back and give these things another go!
Recently any Agatha Christie books I have read is because I have wanted to see the differences between the TV programme and the book. Especially in the case of Miss Marple, where they have added her into the story for television when she does not even appear in the book! This I will probably continue over the next few years.
Does that answer the question? Probably not – but I have always maintained that the book IS ALWAYS far better than the film!
